Di Perancis tahun lepas, ada seorang pelawak (stand-up comedian), keturunan Arab yang terpaksa memohon maaf secara terbuka, sebab buat lawak tentang nama 'Israel' dan 'Holocaust'. Dia dicerca secara live dalam satu forum oleh pengacara verbangsa Yahudi. Dia dituduh sebagai "anti-semitik."
Tapi, sebelum tu ... ada seorang pelawak Yahudi buat jenaka dan lawak. Hina Jesus Christ, Islam (Isu purdah dan Nabi Muhammad SAW). Semua stesen TV mempertahankan pelawak tu atas nama kebebasan bersuara.
Malah, pengacara Yahudi yang menghina pelawak Arab tu melabelkan penghinaan terhadap Jesus dan Nabi Muhammad sebagai "perkara biasa" dan "terpencil. Menurut beliau -- "Kalau hidup tak boleh berjenaka, susahlah. Baik mati. Anggap sahajalah ia sebagai satu jenaka. Satu satira."

Westerners (not all) memang camtu. They make fun of everything under the moon from the President to religion. Diorang nak practice freedom of speech? My advice to them: Practice respect among each other first then talk about freedom of speech. Freedom of speech is not freedom to disrespect.
